Dear John

Movie Title: Dear John
My Rating: 8/10

Yet another great work done by Nicholas Sparks! Comparing this to The Notebook, I think that this has a total different feel. It is a love story between a US Soldier and a ordinary college student. But it was more than that. This movie tells how love for one another can be created so quickly and can be sustained.

The main leads fell in love within 2 weeks and the male lead had to go back to serve the US Army while the female lead had to go back to college to finish her studies. It was a moment where their love for one another is being tested. They wrote letters to each other despite being far apart from each other, their love for one another grew deeper and deeper. You can really feel the emotion in the story, it felt tough for the both of them.

But other than the love between the two, there was another love in the movie - the love of a Dad. The saddest part of the story isn't really about the two of them but it was what happened to the Dad! This movie really reminded me that we should never ever let our family become drifted apart from us. No matter how busy we are, how involved we are in any relationships or commitments, we must never let our family drift apart from us.

Dear John is totally different from any other movies! It really shows real situations relatable to our everyday lives.

I think many parts of the movie was being cut so I've decided! I'm gonna get the book! (if possible)

Yeah, if you've never watched The Notebook, please watch it!

Flip a coin.

Rooted.

Jeremiah 17

7 But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,
whose confidence is in him.

8 He will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit."

I must not be easily uprooted.
I must be able to take the heat.
I must prioritize my spiritual health.
I must not waver when problems come.
I must bear fruits daily.
I must learn to trust in the heart of God even when He is not moving.

I'm gonna be that fool and dance in front of Him, for I know that He will mould me, change me, gird me and comfort me.

Foundation Truth

Sometimes Christians think that the length of their prayer and fasting determines their spiritual level. It is often a made up faith by thinking like that.

True repentance must always go before true faith. Without repentance, there can never be true faith.

A believer can always pray and fast or go to church, but if they don't even repent in the first place, knowing that they are not perfect, humbling themselves and living a life of sacrifice, they are like those believers without conviction.

I am glad that I've been going for bible study mass class weekly! I received so much! This week's just great.

I have to be more alert in everything!

Fool

Sometimes I feel very disappointed with myself, not being able to do what I could have done. I feel like a fool.
Sometimes I think that I'm just too insensitive to understand the things that are happening around me.

But I believe that God is gonna change me. He is gonna mould me.
If I am a fool, I am a fool for Him.

I gotta work harder more than ever!

Persistence

For once, my Dad actually allowed me to go for OPM! PTL!

I think OPM was really awesome. The presence of God is really strong and I've never ever experienced a long period of praise and worship and in prayer! It's really refreshing spiritually. I've learned that I have to be persistent in every aspect of my life. Just like what Brother Edmund said, if you really want something, you just gotta do what it takes!

The violent shall take it by force.

This year, I gotta really pray for my family, my school, assignments and friends.

Luke 18:1 "...that men always ought to pray and not lose heart"

Valentine's Day Movie

Movie Title: Valentine's Day
My Rating: 7/10

Honestly, this is a pretty decent movie. No special effects, no digital graphics. All it had were real good valentine stories that might relate to our everyday lives. The best part of the movie is that it features so many stars! Personally, I think that this movie is just heart warming. I would recommend this to any couple! Nah, everyone should watch this!

Decent movie that contains many meaningful quotes and real life related situations. Thumbs up!

Chinese New Year!

Yes! Finally I've got time to do a post! This year's new year was really different. Almost every year, my parents would have an epic cold war/quarrel/fight, whatever you call it. Just when I thought it's so gonna happen, it didn't! I was very surprised! I kinda thought that God really did answered my prayer for this year's Lunar New Year. Really thank God for a great reunion with my relatives and my family.

For once, we all sat down together to have a proper steamboat dinner.
We laughed, screamed, sang (karaoke) altogether. I kinda got the very tingling heart warming feel when I saw my family and relatives like that.
Despite what we were doing, where we come from, what religion we are, our language, we are a family after all. It's been a long time since I last seen my nieces and nephew!

And I got a surprise new born nephew! He was born on the 12th of Feb! Just 2 days before Valentine's.

He looked so fragile and I really dare not carry him at all.
Kids are really a blessing to the family. When everyone gathered at Ah Ma's place, we all kept playing with the kids. I even carried my youngest 4 month old niece! She's so cute! It really makes me wonder when can I have my own child. HAHAHA!

Throughout the whole of Chinese New Year, all I did was - Eat, Watch TV, Fall Asleep, Wake Up and the cycle goes on. I feel fat already (maybe not). But it was a lazy new year! Every morning I laze on the bed, dragging myself out of bed and failed to do so. I went back to sleep instead.

Luckily on Chu 3 I went (sneaked) out. Otherwise I would need to go on massive visitations with my parents! We'll be like staying at one person's place for a LONG LONG time. I'm glad that I went visitation with Cellgroup to Gillien's!
Her family is so hospitable! And watched 'Valentine's Day' at night! Great day to end the holidays.
Yup, so when school started, everyone is still on lazy mode despite the mountainous amount of assignments.

My Chu 1 dressing! Yay I feel so happy wearing checkered! Happy Chinese New Year!

We Are The World (For Haiti)

This song was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Riche 25 years ago! It was actually written for a campaign for Africa. But now it's a campaign for Haiti. I'm kinda happy that they really sung this well but I would still prefer the first version of We Are The World.

Well, I still think that Sun Ho is doing really more than any other celebrity in the world! She went down to Haiti herself to help out. What a great and awesome woman.

Simple Pleasures.

Sleeping In on a Rainy Day – As the rain beats lightly against the window, you nestle your head deeper into your pillow. The sound is soothing and your bed feels like a sanctuary. There is no place you would rather be.

Finding Money You Didn’t Know You Had – You reach into your pocket and find a $20 bill from the last time you wore these jeans. You aren’t rich, but you are richer than you were a second earlier.

Making Brief Eye Contact with Someone of the Opposite Sex – You pass him/her on the street or in the subway. He/she glances up at you momentarily, making direct eye contact in a way that seems to communicate a subtle curiosity. For a split second it makes you think… and then it’s gone.

Receiving a Real Letter or Package via Snail Mail – E-mail has become the primary source of written communication. Most snail mail these days is junk mail. When you check the mail and find a real letter or package from someone you know, excitement overtakes you as you tear into this rare gift.

Telling a Funny or Interesting, True Story - One of the most enticing roles you lead in life is that of the storyteller. You love to share stories, especially those that will captivate your audience with deep curiosity and humor. There are few things more satisfying than telling a true story that others enjoy listening to.

Hearing the Right Song at the Right Moment - It doesn’t matter what the setting is, hearing the right song for that moment is one of those simple pleasures in life that instantly lifts your spirits. You could be driving home from work, hanging out at a bar with friends, or jogging. When the right song rattles your ear drums the entire meaning of life seems crystal clear.

The First Sip of a Beverage When You’re Thirsty – You just finished mowing the lawn or taking a long jog. The only thing on your mind is an ice-cold glass of water. When you are really, really thirsty, that first sip of any liquid beverage is sheer bliss.

Saying the Same Thing Simultaneously – There is a moment of silence. Then all of the sudden you and your friend blurt out the same exact set of words simultaneously. This rare occurrence is something to smile about.

Realizing You Have More Time to Sleep – Something abruptly awakens you and you think it’s time to get up. Then you squint over at your alarm clock and realize you still have 2 more hours to sleep. A warm euphoric feeling shoots though your body as you glide gracefully back to your dreams.

People Watching – Sitting there on your bench you can see people in every direction. Tall people, small people, thin and plump. Blond, brunette, and redhead alike. Each of them has a different stride and a unique expression. As you drift from body to body you are mesmerized by what you see.

The Feeling You Get When Your Idea Works – You have been struggling to resolve a complex problem all day and you just can’t seem to get it right. Filled with frustration, you decide to exercise one last idea before calling it a night. You’ve had many ideas before that failed miserably… but this time it works.

Fresh, Clean Bed Sheets – You yank at the corner of the bedspread to create just enough space to slide your body under the freshly cleaned sheets. The sheets feel cool to the touch. Everything seems so clean, like nobody has ever slept in this bed before.

A Beautiful View – As the car veers around the side of the mountain you gaze out the passenger window. It’s a clear, sunny day and you can see the entire valley below filled with wild flowers and bright green vegetation. The scenery reminds you of something you once saw in National Geographic. But here it is live, right before your eyes.

Reminiscing About Old Times with Your Closest Friends – Pink Floyd once said “the memories of a man in his old age are the deeds of a man in his prime”. There is no simple pleasure more satisfying than recounting the greatest moments of your life with your closest friends who lived these moments alongside you.

Receiving an Unexpected Compliment – It’s been an average day. Nothing really great has happened, but nothing terrible occurred either. This monotonous day has put you in a dreary mood. Unexpectedly, an older, attractive lady taps you on the shoulder, calls you “handsome” and says she loves your shirt. The day just got a whole lot better.

Having a Good Laugh – Laughter is the greatest cure of all. Life is extraordinary in the moments when you are laughing so hard you can barely breathe. These moments of deep laughter are divine in the sense that they cleanse your mood and set your mind on a positive track.

The Celebration in the Instant Something Makes Sense – Even now that it has explained to you for the third time, you just don’t understand how it works. Everyone else seems to understand but you. Then out of the blue the dots connect in your mind. You finally get it, and it feels great!

Relaxing Outdoors on a Sunny Day – As you relax sprawled out in a lawn chair, the sun warms your skin and a light breeze keeps the temperature comfortable. Birds are chirping merrily in the trees behind you. You are at complete peace with the environment.

Holding Hands with Someone You Love – Every time she grabs your hand you are overcome with an awareness of how much she means to you. Holding hands is sensual and physically intimate, yet subtle. There are few people you allow to hold your hand, so when it happens you can be sure that the moment is special.

Playing in the Water – Water marvels people of all ages. From jumping in puddles as a child, to doing cannon balls in the pool as an adolescent, to enjoying a cocktail in the Jacuzzi as an adult… water is enjoyable.

Making Someone Smile – You notice that your colleague has been under a great deal of stress with meeting a deadline, so you take it upon yourself to complete one of her indirect responsibilities for her. As soon as she realizes what you did, she comes into your office with a big smile on her face. “Thank you”, she says. You just hit two birds with one stone, because making her smile just made your day.

Finishing What You Started – You just finished up a big project you’ve been working on for the last few months, or maybe you just finished your first marathon… Either way, you finalized what you set out to accomplish. The feeling of self accomplishment you get when you finish what you started is by far one of the most rewarding simple pleasures life has to offer.

Some simple pleasures I love.

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day was actually called Saint Valentine's Day. It is an annual holiday held on February 14th celebrating love and affection. It was officially named by Pope Gelasius I in 494 AD in honor of early Christian martyrs named Valentine.

The holiday is traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery (chocolates, sweets, etc) and sending cards and the trend of sending Valentine cards actually started on the 19th century!

The name "Valentine" is derived from the word "Valens" which means Worthy.

The history of how did Valentine's Day came about is really very interesting! There are various stories, histories and legends about it.

I was reading Wikipedia about Valentine's Day and I stumbled upon the section about Asia.

It is said that in Asian countries with Singaporeans, Chinese and South Koreans spends the MOST money on Valentine's gifts! The most interesting thing is the traditions Asians actually have!

In Japan, in 1960, Morinaga, one of the biggest Japanese confectionery companies, originated the present custom that only women may give chocolates to men. In particular, office ladies will give chocolate to their co-workers.

One month later, on March 14, there is the White Day, created by Japanese National Confectionery Industry Association as a "reply day", where men are expected to return the favour to those who gave them the chocolates on Valentine's Day.

It has become an obligation for many women to give chocolates to all male co-workers. A man's popularity can be measured for how many chocolate they receive on that day

In South Korea, women give chocolate to men on February 14 and men give non-chocolate candy to women on March 14 (White Day). On April 14 (Black Day), those who did not receive anything on the 14th of Feb/March goes to a Chinese restaurant to eat black noodles to 'mourn' their single life.

The 14th of every month marks a love-related day in Korea. From Jan to Dec: Candle Day, Valentine's Day, White Day, Black Day, Rose Day, Kiss Day, Silver Day, Green Day, Music Day, Wine Day, Movie Day and Hug Day.

Interesting huh! It would be cool if this were to happen in Singapore!
Uh, but too bad that this year's Valentine's Day clashes with Lunar New Year!
I feel sorry for all couples! D:

Well, personally I think that Valentine's Day need not to just be celebrated between lovers but friends as well!
In Finland Valentine's Day is called Ystavanpaiva which translates into "Friend's Day". This day is more about remembering all your friends and not only your love ones.

Anyway, happy early Valentine's Day! :)

1:56AM

Had a heart to heart talk with Dad.

He told me that I really have to get closer and really help my brother with his studies, for his future.
One thing that he said that really hit me hard. He said, "So what if you helped your friends and other people when you did not even help your brother?"

I'm really convicted. I have to get hold of my brother and pull him out of his gaming addiction and get him into really thinking about his own future.

I gotta really pray harder for my family this year. I sure do hope that this year I would at least get my brother saved!

Gotta pray harder.
