Guess who

Guess who?

Was doing a few designs for the ET Zone Adult's Retreat today!

This design wasn't suitable for the theme so I've changed it.
I thought I could use the 'space' feel to make the whole thing look like it's fun.

To let it have the holiday feel, soft and cool colours are used.

DM2F

It feels really uncomfortable and awkward to be in a new class.

I'm lucky to have a few people that I know in my new class! At least theres someone to talk to.
Well, it's been hard this week. Everyone isn't talking to each other except Yuen and friends and a few of us.

I sure hope that 2F would really open up to one another. Or maybe, it's just that everyone is waiting for someone to do it? Is everyone really that shy?

Anyway, the modules offered in year 2 are really tough. I'm not being negative or whatnot but it's really challenging.

IT'S NOTHING LIKE YEAR ONE AT ALL.

Creative Imaging.
We have to come up with a advertising poster to advertise anything. A product, a campaign, a tv show and whatnot to create a photography based print Ad.

It's really challenging because it's not just about thinking of what product to shoot but you have to include many other factors such as taglines, copywriting, props, lighting, color combinations, photoshop skills, photography skills.

Digital Graphic Images.
Oh snap. This is a pure Adobe Illustrator class!
We have to create vector graphics and as well as knowing the insights of it. We have to do research on what are vector graphics and raster graphics.

But this is a class that I'm looking forward to. I can't wait to improve my Illustrator knowledge.

Typography - Type Hierarchy.
YES! Typography class! Teaching type hierarchy!!!
I was so happy when I first saw the word Typography in my time table.
I can't wait to learn more about typography I tell you!

In the first lesson, we were asked to hand-design/draw a poster using pen, pencil, marker.
We were given a paragraph of words that must be included in the poster. Given 1 hour to complete was a real challenge because we can't use the computer at all!

After the hour, we were asked to go around to vote 3 design that you like by putting a star at the back of the paper. When we got back to our seats, our lecturer asked who has 5 stars.

Turning my paper around, I was awestruck. I saw many many stars!
My lecturer was like, "WHA?! How many do you have?!".
I had total of 13 stars and mine was one of the 3 best designs in the class :D

Side note: The whole class was told to get a laptop for the class and I don't have one!
Currently, I'm using my Dad's laptop. Hopefully it can support Adobe programs though.
And of course, best of all I hope for a MacBook(pro) from my Dad, considering there is a student offer and a singnet offer.

But of course I would need to chip in all my leftover assets. >_>

Digital Design & Layout.
Oh no. Oh no. Oh no.
I really dislike this class. This is a pure InDesign class! InDesign is something that everyone from my batch dislike. But o well, it is something important that we need to learn and it is very useful in our work in the future.

Good thing is that the lecturer is pretty good.

Yep, thats all for now. It's snow-balling slowly. I mean workload..

Leadership

Went for leaders meeting today at Jurong West.
It was awesome. I post this here because I believe it benefits many people and I feel that this is something that many people have to know.

What was preached was very basic but yet, it brings us back to the foundation where we have to check ourselves again if we are or not on the right path.

What is leadership?
Leadership is about adding value to people's life.

Leaders are the givers.
Leadership is a place of sacrifice.
Leadership is a place of serving but not about getting served.
Leadership needs wisdom.

There was a part where the preacher showed a funny example about Christians nowadays.
He took a torch light and shined onto the face of the person in front of him. What was his reaction? He shun away.

Often, believers tend to be too extreme. In other words, they are too much into wanting people to simply come to church and stay. But they are wrong! What they are doing is not shining the light for the path but shining the light to blind them!

Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet and light to my path.

It says, lamp to my feet and light to my path not lamp to my face and light to my face!

How to lead well?

Leadership is more than just the position itself but it is to lead by influence.
Leaders have to become the source of inspiration.

Here comes the part where I love the most..
Leadership role has different levels.

Level 1. Leading Down (takes only 5% of our ability)
What is leading down? It is the most basic leading system. It is the easiest and the simplest level of leadership. It is a leader, leading its crew/member/team member/follower/etc.

Level 2. Leading Lateral (takes 20% of our ability)
What is leading lateral?
Leading laterally is to lead by influence.
People don't have to be led by you but they are willing to be led by you because they were inspired by you.

It is where you need to have the capability to let others follow you eventhough you are not the leader that they must follow, especially those that are of the same level.

This level, is more difficult than leading down. It is where you really have to show people what you are capable of to spark off and inspire them to do something like you, therefore they will turn out to be led by you, willingly.

Level 3. Leading Up (takes 25% of our ability)
What is leading up?
Leading up simply means leading someone in a higher position than you.
(may sound intimidating)

What does leading up need? You have to be the one setting examples in every area.
i.e. Your relationship with your parents, your walk with God, your marriage, etc.

This is most mainly for young leaders. Why? The bible itself says that we should not look down of our youths, we should never say we are too young to do great things.

Leading up simply means that even younger leaders can even influence the older leaders!

This level is the hardest among all these 3 levels.
When you think it is the hardest, you are wrong!

Level 4. Leading yourself (takes 50% of your ability)
Leading yourself is the most difficult. You have to do this first before you move on to leading down, lateral and up.

You have to be a good example of everything.
It is hard to tell people to be generous if you are not generous.
It is hard to tell people to pray more if you are not praying more.
It is hard to tell people to be on time if you are always not on time.

How on earth can you tell someone to do this and that when you are not doing it?

When a leader cannot lead himself/herself, he/she will become manipulative.
It has become a dangerous situation whereby the leader will not be leading by inspiring but by manipulating the follower(s).

Using intimidating ways to lead, to manipulate guilt, fear, to make people do what you want.
Manipulating the followers is to get advantage of their insecurity.

Their source of security has become the source of other's insecurity.

As believers, you have to put God first, then lead yourself before you lead others.
How can you build others when you can't build yourself?

As a leader, one must lead yourself right before you lead others.
Nobody can ever help you if you don't even help yourself.

How to lead up?
To lead up, it's never easy.

You have to do your job EXTREMELY WELL!
Lets say, you are in a typical company. If you were to do extremely well in the project handled to you, you will definitely be noticed by the boss right?

This is where you have built a general relationship, you've become noticed, you've become someone that the leader thinks you are capable of doing great things.

You also have to be willing to do what others won't do.
But, remember to do your job extremely well first before doing something else.

Be prepared. Prepare the things you want your leader to know, tell them in a way your leader can understand your position and your thoughts, let them see the benefit of your ideas and plans.

eg. Theres a worker coming to the concert director telling him that if the lights were to get changed will be better, then the worker simply tell the director how much he needs to get the lights fixed. Of course, the director would definitely reject the proposal of this worker, because he simply told him about it and asks for money.

The worker did not show what was the benefit of the light by showing pictures of them!

Also, understand your leader's mood!
If your leader is in no mood to know about the proposal, how can he/she understand it?
They are humans too, so don't expect them to be ready to listen everytime.

Most importantly,
John 13:17
If you know these things, blessed are you if you
do them.
Jared was telling us that, sometimes, we do want to take breaks but we have to remember, like what the chinese saying goes, 休息是为了走跟长的路.

There must be more to life than this.

There must be more to life than this
There must be more to life than this
How do we cope in a world without love
Mending all those broken hearts
And tending to those crying faces

There must be more to life than living
A better way for us to survive
Why should it be just a case of black or white
There must be more to life than this

Why is this world so full of hate
People dying everywhere
And we destroy what we create
People fighting for their human rights
But we just go on saying c'est la vie
So this is life

There must be more to life than killing
There must be more than meets the eye
What good is life, if in the end we all must die
There must be more to life than this

There must be more to life than killing
There must be more to life than this
I live in hope for a world filled with love
Then we can all just live in peace

There must be more to life, much more to life
There must be more to life, more to life than this

Optimism.

What is optimism?
Optimism is "an inclination to put the most favorable construction upon actions and events or to anticipate the best possible outcome". It is the philosophical opposite of pessimism. Optimists generally believe that people and events are inherently good, so that most situations work out in the end for the best.

Is the cup half full or half empty?

To me, I would say it is half full. Simply answering the above question would show if you are either a optimistic person or a pessismistic person.

Often lives aren't always as planned, aren't always as happy you thought it would be. How would you be affected when you reach the death valley? Would you be down and out? Would you keep pressing on?

For me, I would always compare the Death Valley that I'm going through to my WHOLE life itself! That is the power of optimism!
I would see that the problem that I'm going through would be a small thing compared to what I might face in the future.

Do you remember the first time you failed your exam(s) or test(s)?
How did it affect you back then? Were you sad? how sad were you?

When I first failed my math test, I would cry so hard because I am afraid that I would have to learn harder and do more homework and worst of all, get beaten by my Dad.

But when I think of it now, is it affecting me still? NO!

You see, when you are going through that particular problem, at that point of time you will be sad, you will be down, you will become afraid and fearful. You might even do rash decisions and do foolish things.

Since life itself is not perfect, there's bound to have problems in life, why bother about being bitter all the time when you can choose to have fun and enjoy life to its fullest?

But when you come to think of what had happened back then, you would just feel nothing about it at all. Okay, maybe a little but nothing serious at all right?

I will never, never, never do something rash when I am down, when I am sad, when I am facing a big problem. Because I know, it is just a small thing compared to the whole life itself.

I believe, if you do things optimistically, it would definitely turn out well!
I believe, if you focus on whats good than bad, you will definitely be happier and more satisfied.
I believe, if you were to see how happy you were back then and how you could turn your problem around to be in a happier state and turn it around, you'll be happier eventually!

Why must you make life become so complicated? Why do you have to include bitterness, resentment, sadness, hatred in your life? You can have a choice. Everybody has.

Live each day like it's the last!
WHO are we here for and not WHY!
Keep moving forward!
Look further ahead so you could see better!

Life can be turned around and it starts by your own decision, your own choice.
Start with the man in the mirror.

For Christians, sometimes, yeah we do feel dry and all but, just keep moving forward! Keep pressing on! Whats more, we have God! We should be optimistic about life. We should always believe for breakthroughs, believing for things to happen.

This might be just my own beliefs but I feel, everyone should be optimists. :D

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Movie Title: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
My movie rating: 8/10

Finally, the wait is over! Book 6 has officially turned movie.
This time round the movie has turned more towards the darker side of Hogwarts. It's really indepth now, more historys, more informations and new love story!

Alright, so where did the 2 points go?
1: The story didn't really have much actions but the effects are just getting better and better!
2: Too fast paced, could've been a 5hr long movie instead but oh well!

The way the movie is directed is really good. I can't imagine how could the words can be turned into this movie. The visuals are really great! The story just gets more and more addictive and interesting. Now everybody wants to know more about Tom Riddle's past.

So! If you are a HP fan! You GOTTA WATCH IT!
I'm sure many bookworms that read the book would say that the movie cut too many parts.

Balloon-mania!

FINALLY! 42,000 Balloons are done!
Gonna get half of my pay by the end of July and the other by August.

The first 3 days are really painful but for the rest of the days, our fingers just became so used to the pain and the numbness.
We can complete 1,000 balloons with 10 people in just less than 30 minutes!

Well, overall I think everyone really did a good job except for a few complications between some people here and there. But I think, Azhar (IC) really did a great job.

I'm glad to know them through this job, it's really a blessing to know them. They are so caring for us! Thanks to Liana for the good lunch, thanks Farkhan for making everyone laugh! THANKS Azhar for making everyone feel better and our pain worthwhile.

Glad to even know people like Xin Yao! What a guy!

I guess, the pain wasn't the main issue anymore but it was really tiring and somehow, fun.

What I'm happy most is that I can finally attend service and cellgroup!
Ahhh, missed so much during the week.

Here are some photos!

Balloons!

I'm currently working before school starts. I'm doing balloons for the NUS graduation ceremony. Sounds easy? Wait till you tie thousands and thousands of balloons manually!

Since Sunday (missed decentralised service) till today, we've done 14,000 balloons. Our team consists of only 10 people, blowing (using a balloon blower) and tying it.

My fingers are like.. Swollen and red!!!

Lesson learned!
Next time, if there's any job that would affect Cellgroup and Service = NO NO.

Sorry Debora! But I seriously regret it. Oh well, I'll just have to endure 8 more days with my swollen fingers.
I should've taken up the job that Fiona offered D:

By the end of the 10 days I'm gonna get $450, swollen fingers and super-fast-balloon-tying-speed skill. Heh.

I hope I can attend Friday's cellgroup though.

Looking on the brighter side, I'm gonna get $450 from the balloon job and $130 from the previous usher job. $450+$130 = $580!

I'll save around $250 and use the rest! (tithe included lah!)

I wanna buy:

1. A NEW PAIR OF SHOES! I have a big hole in the sole.
2. NEW SET OF CLOTHES!
3. NEW JEANS!

Have a facial, haircut, hopefully have enough for a body massage and ta da, no more left except for the $250 I'm going to save.

I certainly hope I'll have enough to buy Michael Jackson's rehearsal+new songs tribute DVD that is coming out soon by AEG Sony.

Heres part of a funny conversation this morning (LOL):

At Outram MRT Station.
me: You reaching outram yet?
Shaun: Yea my train just left punggol ;D
me: Oh snap. You want me to wait?
Shaun: Duuuhhhhh. I don't wanna go clementi alone man. The west is horrifying. Might get raped.
me: I'm waiting at outram dungeon, purple entrance. There are creeps everywhere!
Shaun: Yea they're called weirdlings. Office wear kind. Minds are brainwashed into believeing that they are the smartest. Disgusting. Weird make up and strong smells. Eww

Though it's tiring. Though it's painful. Though it doesn't seem worth it at all. But I hope after this I get to enjoy BEFORE MY SCHOOL STARTS.

Oh yeah, I'm in class DM2F Graphic Design! WEEEEEEEE.

Friday, July 3, 2009

This is it rehearsal leaked.

He doesn't even look like he's gonna die!
I can't wait for the rehearsal DVD to come out.

The week.

This week was pretty harsh for me.

Firstly, my Dad flew off without telling me and without giving me extra money.
Secondly, I fell sick and had to use my brother's allowance combined with mine to pay the doc.

I'm glad to have friends like Tianwen encouraging me and Lionel whom was willing to borrow $70 cash. Really, you guys are the best! Thanks!

Finally, today I'm feeling better already. (much better but still sick)
Glad to watch Transformers the 2nd time!
Had a great time spent with Shaun, Hikaru, Darwin, Flora, Perrine and Swee Min.

Aw, too bad someone had to work XD

I can't wait for cellgroup tomorrow! It's been a long time since we all gathered at Jared's place for Cellgroup! I believe that everyone of us would really enjoy coming together again.

Ugh, too bad I can't go on Sunday's event, the Decentralised service!
AND WHATS MORE, I CAN'T GO FOR THE CAMP REUNION!

Why? I have work.
I hope that the work would be not that difficult :D
$450, COME TO ME!
